"Akoma pio konta". REC along with more than 300 kids write a song about the pandemic
Following an Onassis Foundation open call, teenagers 12 to 17-years-old, along with the Greek pop band REC, turned their thoughts into lyrics, their ideas into melody, and set to meet at the heart, co-creating a song about the pandemic.

During the hard time of the lockdown, music proved to be healing. In December of 2020, the Onassis Foundation invited, through an open call, children and teenagers to write down how they reflected upon and felt about the pandemic. Their response was overwhelming. With more than 500 entries, thoughts, ideas, even drawings were gathered – enough input to start with the song creation process.
Meeting at the heart, upon a dream where time will not pass.
The kids met online with the REC members and came even closer, discussing their thoughts about the pandemic, the lockdown, the mandatory use of masks, and whatever concerned them. In one of the online meetings, the physician Sandy Kolovos answered questions that the teenagers posed. During the online meetings, REC composed the song’s melody and gathered the kids’ input. The band’s collaborator, Dimitris Papastathopoulos, wrote everything down and began to link the words, creating phrases. The words turned into lyrics, which made sense. And this is how the song “Akomi pio konta” [Even closer] came to life, proving that music is powerful enough to overcome any bad feeling.
