Talks & Thoughts

Open talks for all

A series of open talks at Onassis Stegi

From 2010, Onassis Stegi has served as a nexus for the Greek and international academic and artistic communities through its "Talks & Thoughts" program, bringing hundreds of major figures from the worlds of arts and letters to Athens from across the globe.

International symposia and conferences – as well as parallel arts, music, film, and educational events – used interdisciplinary approaches to examine issues of critical concern for society and science, the arts and theory in today’s world.

Migration, climate change, urban life, the commons, digital culture, and the digital economy were just some of the issues being explored, with the creation of new knowledge and public discourse were also promoted through collaborations with the participating institutions and individuals.

Society Uncensored discussion series

In 2020, Onassis Stegi launched “Society Uncensored” online discussion series in response to a pressing need to debate everything that concerns us in the here and now, on a local and global level, without censorship. At its very core remained the round table – a place where people gather to discuss all the vital and pressing issues of our times and of Greek society, openly and unmediated, such as femicides and gender-based violence, Black Lives Matter, hate speech, body shaming, the rights of Roma people, cultural accessibility for people with disabilities, the crisis of democracy, the institution of marriage, euthanasia and assisted suicide, the use of psychedelics, and the power of Greek rap. These discussions have amassed over 800,000 views on the Onassis Channel on YouTube.

Now, the “Society Uncensored” series of digital discussions is physically held at the Upper Stage of Onassis Stegi, inviting citizens to become a part of a productive dialogue through a Q&A session.
