Despina Krey & Orestis Mavroudis: Mapping the Socioeconomic Profile of Visual Arts Professionals in Greece
Photo: Jason Faulter
The proposed project aims to conduct a comprehensive study on the socioeconomic profile of visual arts professionals in Greece. The research focuses on identifying the financial conditions of artists and curators, revealing the importance of the cost of living, access to housing, studio, education, and family support in determining who is able to sustain an artistic career. The survey will be designed to shed light on the social stratification in the local visual arts community, taking into account the institutional and state support available to visual arts organizations and to art professionals individually. The goal of this initiative is to challenge the myth of creativity disconnected from the social context and raise questions and suggestions regarding future actions that might contribute to a more inclusive art scene.
