Love me. Lick me. Forgive me.

Neon Installation and Metal Print

Description

The work “Love me. Lick me. Forgive me.” consists of two parts: a neon sign and a photograph of a horse’s eye, in which the same text is reflected. It is based on the artist’s personal and long-standing relationship with horses and on the guilt that accompanies her desire to love and be loved by another species—a relationship that raises questions about the possibility of consent.

The work functions as a commentary on relationships that often exist in grey areas, where care coexists with control, affection with deception, and love with manipulation. Both literally and symbolically, the words in the work reflect our anthropocentric and egocentric need to impose ourselves on other bodies, desires, and individualities.
