Arcadia by Yorgos Zois to premiere at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival

Arcadia, the second feature film directed by Yorgos Zois will have its world premiere at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival, screening in the ‘Encounters’ official competition section. After Venice and Cannes, Yorgos Zois (Interruption, Third Kind) now travels to Berlinale, completing his trifecta of the major European film festivals.

In the lead roles, Vangelis Mourikis and Angeliki Papoulia appear on screen together for the first time, joined in the supporting cast by several other acclaimed screen actors and actresses including Elena Topalidou, Nikolas Papagiannis and Vagelis Evangelinos.

The film is a co-production between Greece and Bulgaria, produced by Antigoni Rota and Stelios Kotionis for Foss Productions (Echoes, Third Kind, Milky Way, Maestro), Maria Drandaki for Homemade Films (Animal, Miracle of the Saragasso Sea, Interruption) and Veselka Kiryakova for Red Carpet (Aga, Alienation).

The screenplay was co-written by Konstantina Kotzamani and Yorgos Zois. The film was lensed by Konstantinos Koukoulios GSC, with music by Petar Dundakov, editing by Yannis Chalkiadakis, production design by Elena Vardava and costumes created by Vasilia Rozana.

The film was supported by Eurimages – Council of Europe, the Greek Film Center, the Bulgarian National Film Center, Onassis Culture, Flux and the National Centre of Audiovisual Media and Communication – E.K.O.M.E. in Greece.
Synopsis

A fatal traffic accident upends the winterly serenity of a popular tourist destination. Yannis and Katerina arrive in shock at the local hospital to identify the victim. Working together at times, apart at others, they try to piece together the puzzle of this lost life, as they confront revelation after shocking revelation. And they are not the only ones. At the Arcadia, the eerie local seaside bar, Katerina will find unlikely solidarity from unexpected companions.
