Onassis Stegi Outward Turn Program

Contemporary greek culture at its best.

Thanks to the support of the “Onassis Stegi Outward Turn” program, Greek artists turn their gaze outwards. In the last 12 years, more than 90 productions and co-productions of theater, dance, and music by the Onassis Stegi have amassed more than 1,000 performances in 52 countries and approximately 200 cities all over the world.

Fostering and supporting artists lie at the core of the existence of Onassis Stegi. Driven by extroversion, we support female and male artists in their international tours, in raising awareness with regards to their work and the furthering of their capacities and learning pathways as they expand their audiences, on a constant and long-term basis.

Our mission through “Outward Turn” program is to strengthen the presence and status of artists to every corner of the world and at the same time forge innovative networks tightly intertwined with the nexus of the international scene, with and for the artists. In practice, this is achieved with the coordination of international travels, as well as visits across Greece, for the Onassis Stegi productions; the realization of co-productions in collaboration with cultural institutions across the world; the participation of artists in international artistic networks; and the enhancement at large of their interpersonal contacts with international programming coordinators in influential cultural organizations. The program offers its support to productions of artists who live and create in Greece primarily and on the condition that they have been included in the programming of the Onassis Stegi.

12+ artists, 17+ stations all over the world for 2023-24: Amsterdam, Avignon, Bucharest, Carlow, Florence, Gijón, Leipzig, Ljubljana, London, Lublin, Madrid, Nicosia, Oslo, Paris, Plovdiv, Strasbourg, Vienna.

In recent years, we have particularly supported young artists by covering part of the costs for their participation in selected professional seminars abroad, while bolstering their inclusion in collaboration programs between European cultural bodies. A special objective is the professional development and evolving of young artists’ capacities, in the light of the ceaseless ambition on part of Onassis Stegi to ‘unleash’ their creative powers.

Onassis Stegi, across its various stages, supports the production, co-production, and hosting of over 30 theater or dance performances and 20 concerts every season. Moreover, it undertakes the production, as well as the co-production of three major art exhibitions on average.

In the last decade, more than 80 Onassis Stegi productions have been celebrated across hundreds of performances hosted by cultural venues all over the world, with the support of the “Outward Turn” program of the Onassis Stegi. The program is steadily tailored to each production and offers financial, technical, and organizational input provided by expertized staffs, as well as promoting the work of artists to international fora through the production of high-quality communication material.
