Nikos Dikas

Public spaces and the role of contemporary architecture in their understanding and fresh dynamics is Nikos Dikas’ perpetual concern. Given this information, Nikos Dikas participated in the artist-in-residence program at the Gyeonggi Creation Centre in Oido, South Korea (July-August 2011). His subject matter was to remodel the coastal zone of the city. Furthermore, in April 2011, he participated in the “Espacio Tres – imaginariΑ” group exhibition at the former military base of Kodra in Thessaloniki with his work Transparent, Perforated, Translucent. He created a fragile, semi-translucent temporary shell which could welcome visitors in its interior. His installation featured in the permanent collection of the exhibition.

The exploration of the relation between architecture and art and public areas is obvious in Nikos Dikas’ previous works such as the Pixelated Carpet which he presented at the Moving Frames Festival in Mytilini. Also, his interactive installation featured at the 2010 Thessaloniki Urban Festival was intended to make people enjoy the city’s public areas and became a site for fun and games in that urban landscape.
