Vasiliki Baklava

Mezzo-soprano, Vasiliki Baklava, performed works of Bohuslav Martinu in recent appearances in Retz and Vienna, where she has been living the last few years. At the Retz Festival in the summer of 2005, she performed “Veselohra na Moste” in Czech with the Tonkunstler-Orchester Niederosterreich Orchestra under conductor, Andreas Schüller.

In Vienna in April 2004, she performed “Comedy on the Bridge” from the same composer under conductor, Raphael Erod, and director, Anisha Bondy. Earlier, in March 2004, she performed Leos Janacek’s “Das schlaue fuchlein” at Vienna’s Schlosstheater under conductor, Ivan Parik. Vasiliki Baklava studied at the Musical College of Thessaloniki and, in 2002, obtained a diploma in Singing with unanimous excellence and a gold medal for exceptional performance from the New Conservatory of Thessaloniki.

She also studied piano, cello, and saxophone. In 2005, she graduated from the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts’ where she specialised in Melodrama. She has attended various seminars including computer aided musical composition at the Department of Musical Studies at Ionian University. She has also given many concerts in Greece and Austria.
