Constantia Gourzi

She was awarded the Christoph und Stephan Kaske Stiftung prize for her work as a composer, conductor and organizer of inventive events combining, amongst other, modern music with improvisation.

Simultaneously with her personal work with her ensemble opus21musikplus and her teaching position in the Academy of Music and Theatre in Munich, she is also involved in an educational program targeted to primary school students which aims to develop their creative skills through a combination of contemporary music and other forms of art.

In 2003, following a commission by the Berlin Opera House, she completed and presented Joseph Haydn's opera "Philemon and Baucis", only part of which has been salvaged. The performance was repeated under her conduction in Budapest Spring Festival 2009, and is presented again this year at the Schwäbisch Gmünd Festival.

As a Composer in Residence at the 58th Passau European Festival this summer, Constantia Gourzi will present five new personal works and conduct the opening concert with the Czech Brno State Philarmonic Orchestra with works of Ligeti, Berlioz, Stravinsky and Strauss.
