Andreas L. Katsonis

Andreas L. Katsonis is guest professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi in the Greek Studies chair following an invitation from the Rector of JNU, with permission from the rectoral authorities of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH). It is one of India's top universities and the only one in the country to systematically teach Greek language and literature.

The scholar took up his new post on 22 July 2015 and his term there has already been extended for a second year. As a graduate of classical literature and lecturer in linguistics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Andreas Katsonis taught Modern and Ancient Greek Language and Greek Literature. The Dimitrios Galanos Greek Studies Chair was founded in the early 1990s with the assistance of Greece and offers both undergraduate and postgraduate elective courses. The decision establishing the chair also foresees lecturers on all matters Greek, other than philology per se, being invited.

Andreas Katsonis has also been invited to participate in the "Reading Aristotle" scheme where he talks about metaphysics. He also collaborates with the Special Centre of Sanskrit Studies (SCSS) teaching ancient Greek. In the past he also taught in the Linguistics Department of the University of Ioannina and the Department of Italian Studies at AUTH. He has spoken at international conferences and collaborates with a series of academic journals.
