Edyta Masior

Edyta Mąsior’s interactive installation My Silent Balloons II was presented as part of this year’s lab30, 15. Augsburger Medienkunst Festival at the Kulturhaus Abraxa in Augsburg, Germany from 27 to 30 October 2016.

How can one ‘listen’ to one’s own movements and ‘colour’ sound? How do we communicate with the environment through the best-known sensors and detectors, which are none other than light and movement? The interactive installation My Silent Balloons II appears to create a dynamic setting which changes as it comes into contact with the user. The well-known balloon –a plastic, elastic object– has been upgraded and fitted with technological parts, converted into a timeless work of art and transformed in utilitarian terms with a multi-channel LED RGB interface. An intangible work which utilises sound and colour, that change depending on the stimulus provided by the user. Against that background the interactor creates variations on the work, interacting with it optically and acoustically, ‘composing’ his or her very own artistic piece.

Edyta Mąsior’s artworks from the Balloons series include video installations, sequences of photographs, objects, constructions as well as interactive installations. Works from this series have been presented so far in Krakow, Granada, Edinburgh, Athens, Patra, Thessaloniki and Kalamata. The artist began experimenting with the subject to balloons in art back in the summer of 2006. Her artistic explorations and investigations on the subject include the theoretical pieces The Balloon in Art (2010) and Media Translocations (2014).

Edyta Mąsior is a visual artist who teaches at the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts in Poland.
