In a makeshift room decorated in a rough and ready fashion, the performer exposes his grotesque body as if under a magnifying glass. In this strange, ramshackle world, everyday, down-to-earth objects become magical. Recognisable references to cabaret, vaudeville and slapstick are rife.

This is a solo performance by Euripides Laskaridis entitled Relic, which, as part of its tour, has already been to three European cities, before coming to the Athens Festival later this year. The new production by the scholar and the OSMOSIS Theatre Company lasts 45 minutes and is something between theatre and dance, exploring human existence, transformation, the ties exerted by predefined identifies and the limits of the ridiculous.

Euripides Laskaridis was chosen by the European Aerowaves platform this year from among 20 very promising European performers (out of a total of almost 500 applicants) to present his work across Europe.

Relic was presented on 18 April at the Antic Teatre in Barcelona as part of the Spring Forward Festival. The next port of call is Vienna and the last one Prague, where an outdoor version will be performed at the international expo on stage design, performing arts and theatrical architecture, the Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space 2015. The Greek section of the expo will also screen a video from the performance entitled ‘Ridicule and Transformation – The Walk’ which OSMOSIS had presented in 2013 as part of the international performing arts meeting IETM. Relic will then be staged at the Peiraios 260 venue on 15 and 16 June 2015 as part of the Athens Festival, and will continue the rest of its European tour during 2016.
