Spyridon Theofilopoulos

He was elected Assistant Professor at the Department of Molecular Neurobiology of the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm. He is a graduate in Biochemistry from the Imperial College London (1999). He completed his doctorate studies in Developmental Neurobiology at the laboratory of Dr. Henry Bradford, and the Imperial College (2003) from which he received an excellence scholarship. He then worked as a postgraduate researcher at the Academy of Athens Biomedical Research Foundation and taught in the Medical School of the University of Thessaly.

Since 2007, he has been working as Senior Researcher in the laboratory of Professor Ernest Arenas at the Karolinska Institute. During his tenure at the Institute he has received sponsorship and a scholarship for his research activity from the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsr°αdet) and the Onassis Foundation.

He has cooperated with the research and development departments of the pharmaceutical companies Amgen, Teva Pharmaceuticals and H. Lundbeck A/S, for the development of innovative drugs such as rasagilline/Azilect™ for the cure of Parkinson's Disease.

He has published numerous scientific articles and has presented his research projects at international conferences. He is a member of international neuroscientists' and biochemistry societies.

Finally, he has received first prize in the mathematical contest "Eudoxus", in Greece.
