Constantinos Destounis

Twenty-one-year-old pianist Constantinos Destounis received second prize at the European Piano Contest Bremen where he competed against 52 pianists from all over the world. The contest took place on February 26 - March 7, 2012, and was broadcast live by a German radio station, and on the Internet. The young pianist performed the first concerto of Tchaikovsky with the Bremen orchestra. Constantinos Destounis is currently a senior student at the University of Macedonia, Department of Music Science and Art. He has also been granted a scholarship by the Onassis Foundation and he is simultaneously advancing his studies in piano in France. Among his teachers are Agathi Leimoni of the Hellenic Conservatory and Schola Cantorum of Paris, and Igor Petrin, Assistant Professor at the University of Macedonia. Last December, Constantinos Destounis was awarded the honorary ‘Eleni Myconiou’ prize from the Class of Letters and Fine Arts of the Academy of Athens. Also, in October 2011 in Thessaloniki, he won first prize at the Panhellenic Piano Competition organized by the Macedonian Artistic Society “Tehni”. The finals of the competition took place at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall with the participation of the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra Also, Constantinos Destounis represented Greece at the 2010 Eurovision Young Musicians contest.
