Periklis Iakovakis

Periklis Iakovakis emerged as European champion by winning the gold medal in the 400m hurdles at the European Athletics Championships in Gothenburg in July 2006.

The Greek champion and scholar finished in 48.46 seconds after an amazing race that left no doubt in the minds of his opponents as to his victory. He has been the Greek record holder since May 2006 when he finished in 47.82 seconds at the Osaka Grand Prix of the European Athletics Championship, in Japan.

Periklis Iakovakis was born in 1979 in Lechena, Ilia. He shone at the World Junior Championships in 1998, and the 1999 and 2001 European Junior Championships, where he set European and Panhellenic records. He also won the bronze medal at the World Athletics Championships in Paris in 2003.
