Zoi Dimitriou

Dancer and choreographer Zoi Dimitriou presented, in successive performances in England and Greece during autumn, her latest work (a work in progress) entitled In the Process of... - a play of two emerges as a series of short intermezzos.

The duet, interpreted by Zoi Dimitriou and Jos Baker, and accompanied by 60 wooden hula hoops, draws on Conlon Nancarrow’ compositional structures and is a study around the effect of film figure movement on genre recognition. Looking at the composition as a process, the young choreographer attempts to link the highly rational with the irrational in a freely moving continuity and compare the quality of the human body to that of objects, words and the language, sound and light.

This was the opening performance at the Touch Wood Festival in Robin Howard Dance Theatre of The Place theatre in London on September 12, and it was later relocated to Laban Studio Theatre of London. On October 31st, the performance was presented at the Isadora and Raymond Duncan Dance Research Center in Athens, and in January at the Michaelis Theatre of Roehampton University.
