Danae Papamattheou-Matchke

The 22-year-old award-winning violinist has given this year three exquisite amazing music lovers.The first recital was held on January 19th 2011 at the Athens Concert Hall (Musical Nights in the Dimitris Mitropoulos Hall) where the young musician was accompanied by her father, distinguished pianist Uve Matchke. The programme included sonatas by German composers Bach and Beethoven, and Belgian composers Ysaÿe and Franck. The two soloists also presented for the first time in Greece Dimitris Terzakis’s work Sprüche im Wind (10 miniatures for violin and piano), which is especially dedicated to Danae Papamattheou-Matchke.

Her second solo appearance was held in Thessaloniki, at the Garden Theatre, Municipal Park, on May 25th 2011, accompanied by the Thessaloniki Municipal Symphony Orchestra with conductor Charis Eliades, where she performed the monumental Concerto for Violin and Orchestra by J. Brahms.

Finally, on June 10th, the prominent violin player joined forces with the German orchestra Thüringen Philharmonie Gotha and conductor Tanja Goldstein, and performed Violin Concerto No. 5 in A major, K. 219 by W.A. Mozart.

Danae Papamattheou-Matchke began violin classes at the age of five. She studied at the Music High School Schloss Belvedere in Weimar, Germany, and at the renowned Mozarteum in Salzburg, and has attended numerous international violin seminars. Her soloist debut was at the tender age of eleven and since then she has performed in many festivals both in Greece and abroad.

In Germany, she has collaborated as a soloist with distinguished symphonic ensembles, philharmonic orchestras and chamber music groups, while in Greece she has performed with the Athens State Orchestra, the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, the Camerata and the Volos Symphony Orchestra. Despite her young age, Danae Papamattheou-Matchke has received numerous acclaims and awards both at national and international level.
