Leonidas Kavakos

The violinist Leonidas Kavakos won the Léonie Sonning Music Prize 2017. The prize is Denmark's highest musical distinction. It is an € 80,000 cash prize that has been awarded every year since 1959 to an internationally acclaimed composer or musician. The prize will be bestowed on Leonidas Kavakos at a special concert to be held on 12 January 2017 in Copenhagen, as part of a mini festival, during which the violinist will give a series of performances and seminars. Just some of the previous winners of the Léonie Sonning Prize include Igor Stravinsky (1959), Leonard Bernstein (1965), Benjamin Britten (1968), Yehudi Menuhin (1972), Mstislav Rostropovich (1981), Isaac Stern (1982), and Anne-Sophie Mutter (2001), to name a few.
