Professor Anastasios-Ioannis Metaxas’ distinction

Anastasios-Ioannis Metaxas, Prof. Emeritus of Political Science and founder of the University of Athens’ Political Communication Laboratory, was elected last December as an ordinary member of the Académie Européenne Interdisciplinaire des Sciences. The welcoming ceremony was conducted in Paris at the beginning of April. His unanimous election celebrates his long endeavours to carry out interdisciplinary research in the political and social sciences in Greece.

Anastasios-Ioannis Metaxas studied law and political science at the Universities of Athens and Aix-en-Provence, France. He holds two PhDs, and has also been awarded the Gold Medal of the Academy of Provence and the Award of the School of Legal, Economic and Political Sciences by the University of Aix-en-Provence for his work in systems analysis. He also helped set up the University of Athens’ Department of Political Science and Public Administration in 1982 and was elected as its dean.

In 2010 he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Crete as part of an international conference about ‘Political Science – Modern issues and the contribution of A.-I. D. Metaxas’. In 2012 he was declared Professor Emeritus of the University of the Peloponnese.

Prof. Metaxas is an ordinary member of the Hellenic Data Protection Authority, its representative on the National Committee for Human Rights, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Themistocles and Dimitris Tsatsos Foundation and the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation. He is also Chairman of the Onassis Foundation’s Cavafy Archive.
