The event, which was held on March 28, 2007, was attended by about four hundred members of the Greek-American community, Archbishop Demetrios of America, the President of the New York Federation of Greek-American Associations Nikos Diamantidis, the Consul General of Greece in New York, Ekaterini Boura, the Consul General of Cyprus in New York, Martha Mavrommati, the Permanent Representative of Greece to the United Nations Adamantios Vassilakis, the Executive Director of the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation (USA), Ambassador Loucas Tsilas, the Vice-President of the Onassis Foundation (USA), Ambassador Michael Sotirhos, and the Board Member Michael Jaharis.

In his address, Michael Blooomberg stressed the important contribution of the Greek-American community to the social and economic life of the American city and expressed his heartfelt thanks to both the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation and the Onassis Cultural Center for their collaboration.

It is noteworthy that the cover of the event's invitation depicted an Attic red-figure vase (430 BC), the work of the Kleophon Painter - namely one of the exhibits presented in the highly successful exhibition 'Athens-Sparta', which was being held at the Onassis Cultural Center.
