EDUCATIONAL EVENTS FOR CHILDREN AND MANY MORE EMOTIONS!

September – November 2017

Family events and educational activities on Saturdays and Sundays in the context of the temporary exhibition ‘εmotions: a world of emotions’ organized by the Acropolis Museum and the Onassis Foundation.

Children and parents experience the emotions of the ancient world through a wide-range of imaginative events and activities that begin on Sunday, 17 September at the Acropolis Museum and on Saturday, 14 October at the Onassis Library (56, Amalias Avenue)! Organized by the two institutions in the context of the exhibition ‘εmotions, a world of emotions’, these educational events enable young people and adults to see the exhibition, discover the myths behind its 129 masterpieces, and make their own imaginary stories, designing ancient masks and participating in an enchanting journey of emotions.

On Saturdays and Sundays, children and the adults escorting them are invited at the Onassis Library and the Acropolis Museum respectively. There, they encounter Achilles, Ajax, Menelaus, Helen of Troy, Medea, Phaedra, as well as antiquity’s common folk. From Sunday, 17 September to Sunday, 19 November, they become active participants in a wide range of unique educational activities.

The educational events are free of charge (for all children and one parent or adult escorting them). Reservations are required. Due to limited availability, participation will be decided on a first come first served basis.

•     For reservations for Sunday events at the Acropolis Museum, please call 210–9000900 (Monday to Friday, 15:00 to 17:00).

IN THE CONTEXT OF THE EXHIBITION ‘EMOTIONS: A WORLD OF EMOTIONS’

Α) Acropolis Museum – Events and activities for children & parents every Sunday,
17 September – 19 November 2017

Children get to know the Museum’s archaeologists-hosts. They participate either creatively or as audience in exciting activities, bursting of emotions. Adults escorting the children can watch projections about the Parthenon at the Virtual Reality Theatre. If they wish to, they can contribute to their children’s thematic works by making their own creations. They also have the possibility to visit the exhibition ‘εmotions: a world of emotions’ at the Temporary Exhibition Gallery.

1) Through the Eyes, Hands, Lips, and Ears...
Children from 4 to 6 years old have their own understanding of the senses and emotions portrayed in the exhibition. In this event, they depict creatures that feel and express particular emotions for spectators of these wonderful and monumental works.
Date: On Sundays: 1, 8, 15 October & 5 November 2017
Time: 12:00
Duration: 50 minutes

3) Stories of Imagination at Spaces for Emotions

Children from 8 to 14 years old talk about the world of emotions portrayed in objects of this temporary exhibition, about the places where they were originally found as well as their existing environment, i.e. the museum. They ‘journey’ through different places and periods, surrounding the exhibits with numerous visitors, be they ‘supernatural’, human, animals or plants, who experience a wide range of emotions.
